As deepawali is approaching, you can try this simple crunchy. Crispy ring murukk’s at your home with few available ingredients, for both kids and others which pairs well with a cup of coffee/ tea. ...

Roasted rice powder - 1 cup
Moong dal - 2 tbsp
Butter - 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds - ½ tsp
Seasome seeds - ½ tsp ( optional )
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Asafoetida powder - a pinch
Warm Water - as needed to make dough
Salt - to taste
Coconut oil - for deep frying

Wash and soak 2 tbsp of moong dal in water for 1 hour or more. In a bowl, add roasted rice powder, salt, soaked moong dal and butter. In a saucepan, take water and boil it. When its boiled, pour it little by little to the rice powder. Mix well and make it to a soft, smooth dough. Let it sit to cool down. Add red chilli powder, cumin seeds, asafoetida powder and seasome seeds to the dough. Knead it well with your hands. If want you can add few drops of oil. Make small balls out of the dough. Take a ball and roll it out and make small logs ( see the pic ) Bring two sides together and stick them together, unless it may break while frying. Repeat the same process with remaining dough. Heat oil in a frying pan. When the oil is hot enough, drop the murukku in batches. Don’t over crowd. Turn the flame to medium- high and deep fry both sides till they are golden brown and crisp. Drain it in a tissue paper. Ring murukku’s are ready..
